SCBWI National Conference 2007
Hi, world.  I just returned from the SCBWI (Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators) National Conference and my brain is a little overloaded, but in a good way.  I love being part of such a friendly, creative, and supportive group.  One of the best talks of the four-day event was given by John Green , author of Looking For Alaska and An Abundance of Catherines.   Pretty smart guy, to say the least.  I enjoyed hanging out with my usual crowd and meeting a few new people...and especially being part of the winning trio in the By The Light of the Silvery Moon costume costest.  A more thorough post on the conference coming soon to a blog near you.  Greg

Hey, Karin. Yes, it was nice hanging out at Nationals. To answer your kids' questions, yes it hurts to crash, splat, thud, and kabonk, but Melvin is a manly superhero and hardly ever complains. The tree house is big enough for a TV and a computer. Not quite as big as Carlos's bedroom, though. Melvin wears blue tights (see book covers).

Are you going to the Val Hobbs workshop? Let me know...maybe we can set up a carpool.

Hi, Greg! Just wanted to say thank you for making a Nationals Newbie feel welcome. My children, Carlos and Fiona, loved "Terror in Tights" and they had a few questions. 1)Does it hurt when Melvin crashes on the first four attempts? 2)How big is the treehouse? Is it as big as Carlos's room? 3)Are Melvin's tights pink like "dumb ballet girl tights" or are they cooler? Cheers, Karin

Greg Trine is a truly inspirational writer and speaker. When he visited my class, he captivated my students with stories of his challenges and successes as a writer, inspiring them with lessons of perseverance and encouragement. The activities he worked on with them showed how they could embody traits of character just as noble and just as funny as Melvin Beederman's. He was very entertaining, and the evil laugh contest was a hoot!
