Downtown Portland\u2019s Yamhill Historic District sits nestled between SW Taylor St and SW Morrison St and is bordered east to west by the Willamette River and SW 3rd<\/sup> Ave. It\u2019s home to unique coffee shops like Caf\u00e9 Ponte and 40 LBS Coffee Bar, restaurant favorites like Luc Lac and Q Restaurant, and now, a cozy taphouse that nods to both the Pacific Northwest and The Lord of the Rings.<\/p>\n

David and Betsy Seidel first opened Treebeerd\u2019s Taphouse<\/a> in 2019 in Downtown Corvallis. The airy space on SW 2nd<\/sup> St quickly became a favorite among beer lovers and J.R.R. Tolkien fans who recognized the homage to the writer\u2019s character \u201cTreebeard.\u201d Now the taphouse has found a second home in Downtown Portland. The family recently opened its 2,500 square-foot taphouse at 822 SW 2nd<\/sup> Ave in Melvin Mark Companies\u2019 2&Taylor<\/a> building.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe wanted to be in the heart of Portland,\u201d says Hanna Seidel, daughter of David and Betsy. \u201cI came to check out\u2026 the quadrants of the city and the vibe of each area, and we just fell in love with Downtown. The neighborhood and the building itself were a lot of the draw for us wanting to be in that space specifically.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hanna will be Treebeerd\u2019s general manager while her brother Luke, who helped open the Corvallis location and whom she refers to as the \u201cbeer guy of the family,\u201d will be curating its 36 rotating taps.<\/p>\n

The Seidels always imagined returning to the Pacific Northwest. Though David and Betsy previously lived in the Corvallis area for a brief period of time, the family is originally from Wisconsin. When the opportunity to open a Corvallis taphouse came up a couple years ago, they and their son Luke took it. Now that Hanna has relocated from her home in Denver, the family is back together in a place they love and are thrilled to be in Downtown Portland.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re excited to be working on this together\u2026 [and] it\u2019s exciting to be in the pulse of the city,\u201d says Seidel. \u201cIt gives us a lot of confidence knowing we\u2019ll have good neighbors and patrons.\u201d<\/p>\n

While the Corvallis Treebeerd\u2019s has d\u00e9cor touches inspired by The Lord of the Rings, the Portland location sticks more to the theme of \u201ctrees\u201d and \u201cbeer.\u201d The space features warm green walls, gold lighting fixtures, lounge-y corners, and a variety of palms and ferns that blend industrial charm with the outdoorsy atmosphere of the Pacific Northwest.<\/p>\n

Now open Tuesday-Saturday, Treebeerd\u2019s Taphouse offers a wide variety of beer and cider as well as bites like hummus, spinach artichoke dip, soft pretzels, and charcuterie. Seidel says the menu will expand throughout the year while the tap list will be rotated regularly to give patrons \u201cthe best of craft beer.\u201d<\/p>\n
